Born in 1951 in eastern Washington, Wood began college as a student of chemistry before studying fine art, completing his degree at Fairhaven College. In 1976 he purchased a Hunter Penrose etching press and then lived and worked in Bellingham, Washington. In 2000 he was a visiting instructor at Il Bisonte School of Graphic Arts in Florence, Italy, and returned there in 2006 with a group of Pacific Northwest artists he had organized for a special cultural exchange. The artist was also invited to speak or conduct workshops through such organizations as The Whatcom Museum, Gage Academy and North Cascades Institute.
